Other states don't say a Pledge of Allegiance to their state flag and many don't even have a Pledge.
Many new people moving to the state of Texas are surprised that we say the Texas Pledge in addition to the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States.
A Reddit user originally from Connecticut commented they were "outrageously surprised" for their first day of school.
"I moved from Connecticut to Texas in 2006, and I was outrageously confused my first day at school because of this. I did the pledge as normal, and just instinctively sat down afterwards. And then over the speaker I hear "And now for the Texas pledge" I shot back up and moved my lips pretending like I actually knew what the **** I was doing."
For those of y'all who don't know, this is the Texas Pledge:
"Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible."
16 other states have Pledges of Allegiance to their flag:
